POSTPONED - It's not all white at the North Pole !

At Donhead St.Andrew's Church

Unfortunately, owing to the Coronavirus outbreak, the event has been postponed until a future date to be announced.

St Andrew’s Church re-opened at the end of 2019 after two years of conservation, restoration and new building. Part of the church’s community programme is to host two illustrated talks each year.

The inaugural talk will be given by the Arctic explorer and ocean conservationist PEN HADOW on Saturday 4th April 2020 at 6.00 pm at St Andrew’s Church.

Pen Hadow is known as the explorer who solo trekked from Canada to the North Pole. This is a feat of human endeavour that has not been repeated to this day. Pen is also well known and respected for his leadership in non-governmental scientific exploration of the Arctic Ocean.

He will share his extraordinary experiences and his amazing photography of that trek to the North Pole. He will also talk about why exploration of the natural world has never been more important than it is today and why he set up the 90North Unit, an organisation dedicated to protecting the wildlife and floating ice reef eco-system in the Arctic Ocean.

This talk will have a wide appeal to all age groups. Tickets in advance from Jane Hill (01747 828279) £10 – and £5 for those in full time education. The ticket price includes interval nibbles. A few tickets will be available at the door. For those who wish to pay on line or who cannot come to this event but would nevertheless like to make a donation, please click on the special section of the Home Page for instructions how to do this.

There will be a Fine Wine Raffle and a Licensed Bar.

The evening will raise funds for the new south aisle zinc roof at St Andrew’s Church. The previous lead roof was stolen in the autumn of 2019, just days after the completion of the church’s two-year Development Project.
